The division had been re-organized as a Jager-Division in 1942. The main purpose of a Jager-Division was to fight in adverse terrain where smaller units where more combat capable, than the brute force offered by the standard infantry divisions. A Jager-Division was more heavily equipped than a Mountain-Division, but not as heavily as a large Infantrie-Division.
